Interviews in Bagnoles

Here's a sample of the interviews we did yesterday with the public in the town of Bagnoles.

Lundi - le voyage en Anglettere

Le matin, nous nous sommes reveillés à sept heures pour commencer tôt. Nous avons fait nos baggages la nuit avant nous avions mangé de l'escargot avec Stephan. Ce jour nous avons fait nos lits et mangé le petit-dejeuner. Ensuite, nous avons fait une photo de groupe avec Barry et puis Stephan - c'était très rigolo cepedant aprés nous avons dit au reviour à Stephan. C'était vraiment émouvant. En ce moment, nous écrivons le blog en se sentant nostalgique. À bientôt l'Angleterre!

Last night we all had a great evening gathered around a campfire we all helped to make, we all sang and told stories; some of them were really funny, I really enjoyed the whole experience! Beforehand when eating dinner we were offered the traditional French cuisine of snails, I rather stupidly was willing to eat one, I am glad that I tried one though despite it being quite chewy. This morning we were woken up at 7:00am, we all had to strip our beds and then we had a very prompt start on the bus. Whilst arriving back to Calais (in France) we stopped at Carrefour where we purchased our lovely driver Barry a present to thank him for doing such a fantastic job.  I am currently writing this blog whilst sat on a bar stool on the ferry, on our way back to England! The crossing is far rockier than on the way to France, I feel like I am going to fall of my stool. I cannot wait to get off the boat. We will soon be arriving back into England, I will miss France so much; it has been one of the best experiences of my life and I would highly recommend anyone to travel here.

Le Groupe

Dimanche

Dimanche matin nous avons fait de l'escalade et le trapèze dans deux groupes. C'était fantastique - le trapèze était effrayant mais amusant à regarder. L'après-midi, nous sommes allés à Bagnoles - une ville qui était pittoresque et un public qui était chaleureux. Ici, nous avons fait nos interviews. C'était une nouvelle  éxperience enrichissant malgré étant difficile. Ce soir, nous allons avoir une soirée autour du feu.

In the morning of the second day, we got up two hours earlier thanks to time zone and clocks going forwards! At 8:20 we had breakfast while the teachers inspected out rooms. Our room earned an excellent negative score because some people don’t appreciate stacked shelves art in the middle of the room (see attached video). Our dirty washing, including colour co-ordinated boxers, lay firmly upon the floor. We are going for the “booby prize” – hopefully a risqué brioche as seen in Fougeres!

We met at 9am to hastily don ill-fitting harnesses and marched towards the trapeze and the climbing wall. Unfortunately for the men, these straps were rather restricting (if you know what we mean!). Over the activity was good fun and rewarding to complete.

After the activities, we had a little free time before a lunch of baguettes (what else?!), biscuits, crisps and apples.  We then prepared questions to spring on the unsuspecting French public in the town of Bagnoles. Despite our initial reluctance to approach members of the public, most in people in the group spoke to real French people. Some of the conversations were recorded and you can see them in this blog. It all went well in the end, however we did witness to a slight road traffic accident – needless to say no one was hurt! After this, we decided it was time for a visit to a pleasant café, where we had yet another crepe.  We have said “merci” more time than I care to count; only the French would have such a submissive word for “thank you”!

We returned back to the Chateaux on the excellent bus with the fantastic Scottish driver, Barry. We now have some free time, before a well-deserved hot dinner. After dinner, our evening activity involves a campfire, marshmallows and some good Cumbria craic!

Samedi

Le matin nous avons visité le marché à Fougères où nous avons acheté à manger. Alors, nous avons fait une compétition pour juger le meilleur repas. Irvine a volé du pain et il a fait un gage. Qu'il mange de la brioche! L'après-midi, nous sommes allés au musée de cidre et c'était très intéressant. Maintenant, nous allons manger. À bientôt!

Le Voyage

Nous avons pris le ferry à sept heures trente-cinq de Douvres. Le voyage a duré une heure et demie. Puis nous avons pris la route en France. Nous sommes arrivés vers onze heures.

Our journey to the château was an eventful, yet memorable one. We set off around 8:45pm after meeting in Cumberland Yard. Our ferry was due to depart from Dover to Calais at 6.45am. However, due to the inconvenience that the bus decided to break down at 01.45am, we were delayed and got the later ferry at 7.30am as the mechanic took an hour and a half to arrive. Whilst some thought the disruption was ironic, others decided to pass the time by dressing up!

After arriving in Calais following a two hour ferry ride, we were rewarded with another 4 hour bus drive to the château itself. We were welcomed by a buffet of food along with the château staff. Soon after, we had the pleasure of dispersing into our rooms and going to bed to be awake early in the morning.
